Christoper Lay aka Cino G was one of the best artist that has come out of Atlanta.
After Cino’s partner Pumpin The Hootlum went to jail for murder, we decided to start working on Cino’s solo album. This entire album was recorded in a three bedroom apartment at “The Square of Peopletown” right behind Turner Field (now Georgia State Stadium) This was the first album that we recorded that we didn’t have to pay for studio time. We made all the tracks and recorded the vocals in the closet. I mixed the album in my Honda Civic.
Production for this album was done by myself and my brother Crazyogi whom I had purchased an MPC 60 for a few years earlier. This was also the first album that the majority of the album was made using the MPC 3000 and 60 instead of using my computer with midi devices. A track like “You Don’t Want None” has one of the best sounds I have heard using my brothers MPC 60. The warmth of the 808 is amazing recording into a Roland VS-2480. You can see Sha in the studio below.
Featured on this album was 4-IZE, Sha-Skillz, Swain G, Da Professor (Midnite from Augusta’s 2 in the Chamber), 2 Trill, Sneaky and many others contributed. Myself and Quincy Jones pressed up 5000 copies of this album. Once again, when the CD’s came back nobody wanted to sale them and turn in any money. I should have given all of the CD’s away right there in Zone 4 and turn our focus on making money from shows.
Cino and I have not talked in years, but I would like to do another album with him.
